2016 Toyota Sienna Minivan Review

When looking for a reliable, stylish, and comfortable minivan for practical family transportation, the Toyota Sienna is the perfect choice and is one of the best minivans available today.

Every 2016 Toyota Sienna model comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 266 horsepower, 245 lb. ft. of torque, and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Sienna with front-wheel-drive (FWD) yields an estimated 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, while the all-wheel drive (AWD) models yield an estimated 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

The Sienna can accommodate up to eight people comfortably and is available in five trims- L, LE, SE, XLE and Limited. The SE, Limited, and XLE trims are also offered in “Premium” sub-trims. Both the LE and XLE come in 7 and 8 passenger configurations. The SE can accommodate eight passengers, while the Limited and L models can accommodate up to seven passengers.

Standard features for the L trim include- cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, a windshield wiper de-icer, manual sliding rear doors, tri-zone automatic climate control, a 6.1-inch touch screen display, cloth upholstery, automatic headlights, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a rearview camera, a height-adjustable driver seat, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, Siri Eyes Free, iPhone connectivity, a 4-speaker audio system, a USB port, an auxiliary audio jack, and a CD player.

The LE trim adds additional features, such as- heated mirrors, a conversation mirror, power sliding side doors, floor and overhead mounted consoles, privacy glass, an 8-way power driver seat with power lumbar support, upgraded fabric upholstery, body-color exterior trim, second and third row window sunshades, a 7-inch touch screen display, roof rails, and a 6-speaker sound system, satellite radio. All-wheel-drive is optional and adds bigger 18-inch wheels.

The SE trim adds LED daytime running lights, heated front seats, a sport-tuned suspension, first and second row perforated leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sharper steering, fog lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, mesh grille, and a power lift gate.

The SE Premium adds a navigation system, keyless ignition/entry, blind spot and rear cross traffic alerts, Entune smart phone app integration, a rear-seat entertainment system a Blu-ray/DVD player, the Driver Easy Speak system, which amplifies the voice of the driver through the rear speakers, two 120-volt power outlets, and a large split screen display. A sunroof is optional.

The XLE trim is similar to the SE and LE trims, but adds faux-wood trim, a 4-way power front passenger seat, keyless ignition/entry, and power rear quarter windows. The XLE Premium adds rear parking sensors and the top of the line Limited trim includes all of the features the XLE Premium has, except for the 2nd row entertainment system, as well as LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear sunroofs, a uniquely styled front exterior grille, auto-dimming and power-folding mirrors, first- and second-row premium leather upholstery, driver memory settings, front and rear parking sensors, a heated steering wheel, Toyota Safety Connect Emergency services, a navigation system, a 10-speaker JBL audio system. Four wheel drive models have a power-folding third row with better leatherette upholstery, a sliding center console between the first two rows, and extendable footrests for the second row. The Limited Premium adds a rear seat entertainment system, automatic high beams, xenon headlights, and automatic wipers.

Standard safety features include- front-seat side airbags, stability and traction control, full length side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, a rearview camera a driver-side knee airbag, a front passenger seat cushion airbag, and anti-lock disc brakes. A blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, front/rear parking sensors, forward collision warning system are optional.

The interior of the Sienna XLE Premium is very nice with attractive high-quality upholstery, leather trimmed adjustable seats, and simulated wood cabin accents. The dashboard and console area has a beautiful and modern appearance with easy to use controls/knobs. There is ample room in the front and rear cabin for taller passengers and the rear seat entertainment center is perfect for families with children. All of the seats are comfortable, plush, and supportive, which makes long distance travel a great experience. There is also plenty of storage space and the 40/20/40 split second row can be removed for an additional 150 cu. ft. of cargo room.

On the road, the Sienna XLE provides a comfortable and enjoyable ride. The minivan’s sprightly V6 engine delivers quick acceleration and the vehicle remains composed when navigating on bumpier surfaces. Handling is excellent and braking is strong. Because the Sienna is a large minivan, it is not as quick on the road as a Camry, but because the steering is light, it makes driving the vehicle a pleasant experience.

The 2016 Toyota Sienna has a starting MSRP of $28,900 and $38,605 for the more luxurious XLE Premium, but in my opinion, it is well worth the price.

If you are looking for a stylish minivan with practical family transportation, advanced technology, spacious interior, large cargo capacity, and great on the road performance, then I highly recommend taking a look at the new 2016 Toyota Sienna.
